Cubs vs. Royals

This past Saturday, Cory and I went to the Cubs/Royals game with our good friends Jessica and Mike.  It was a 6:10 game and the weather was calling for a 30% chance of severe storms.  Well that didn't happen...it was a typical KC Saturday in June.  Hot and sunny and we were all sticky and gross!

We tailgated for a few hours beforehand...I had cream soda in glass bottles so that I could have the full tailgating effect, without the beer :(  I have to say, tailgating now has much better food than it did in college.  We had cookies, watermelon, cherries, orzo salad, brats and chips and guacamole.  Delicious!

The view from our seats...they were great and even better once the sun went down

Amazingly, it was a sold out game.  And there may have been more Cubs fans than Royals fans. Seriously.

As the game went on, it was gorgeous out...

To finish out the game, Joakim Soria was brought in.

All we needed was one more out...

And we did it!

Royals Win!

To top off our weekend, we spent Sunday registering at Babies R Us and trying to find a dresser we like for the baby's room.  It was exhausting.  Cory swears that wedding registering was just as tiring, but I think this was worse.  We were beat by Sunday evening.  It called for couch naps and leftovers for dinner!

First Days of Summer

I had two days off work last week since I worked the weekend and they ended up being much better than expected.  If you ever check the blog, you may remember from about a month ago, I was summoned for jury duty.  I have been dreading it ever since.  On the summons, you are given a number to call after 5 pm the day before you are scheduled to show up.  Well, I called the number on Monday and much to my delight...jury duty was CANCELED!!!!!  And they consider your service complete and you can't be called for 3 more years.

Not only was jury duty canceled, we also got our wedding album in the mail on Monday.  I know, we've been married over 2 years, but we are procrastinators and put off picking the photos for about a year and a half.   But its here and it is pretty!

After all of the good news on Monday, I decided to try out a new recipe.  Its not often when I make something new that I am really excited about it, but this was delicious!  Creamy and cheesy and yummy, Oh My!  I made Baked Ziti from my best of 2010 cookbook.

Boiling the noodles and cooking 5 cloves of garlic...anything with this much garlic you know has to be good.

Homemade sauce, filled with the garlic!

Noodles, with a cup of sauce, mozzarella and ricotta cheeses.

Getting ready to head into the over....topped with more mozzarella and parmesan cheeses!

Out of the oven...gooey and delicious!

Even the next night's dinner was pretty good...baked bbq chicken, green beans, homemade corn muffins and homemade mac & cheese!

bUmPDATE

21 weeks and 6 days
The newest update is that we officially have some movement now!  After a few weeks of very light flutters, everyday there has been at least one good thump since last Wednesday.
Even Cory has been able to feel a few of them, but typically if I feel one and then tell him to give me his hand, the baby won't move at all.  Once again, proving it is stubborn.
On top of being stubborn, the little stinker likes to hang out on my sciatic nerve on the right side.  Thus, my calf and foot are tingly and numb.  Awesome.

Happy 30th!

Last weekend we celebrated Cory's 30th birthday with the 2nd Annual Backyard BBQ Festival.  Our friend Corey did all the BBQ fixin's for us and they were amazing.  He made two different kinds of pulled pork, brisket, chicken, ribs, and sausage sliders.

Everyone raved about the meat and we've been snacking on leftovers all week.  I would say we had a successful day.  We had tons of friends over and as usual the party went into the wee hours of the morning.  The only difference was that this year I was stone cold sober and got to relay everyones activities to them in the morning :)  I got a few pics, but I kept setting down my camera...I was a bad photographer that night!

Aaron made driveway art before the party started.

Baby Bump Update

We had our second ultrasound today and so far, so good!  Baby is weighing in at 11 oz and we learned yet again, it is a stubborn baby.  Both the tech and the doctor tried to get the baby to move more to get better angles and it just wouldn't cooperate!

We got to see a full bladder, the four chambers of the hearts, both kidneys and the brain.  We also got to see the spine and the arms and legs.  Apparently, it has been a busy little baby, cooking right along on schedule.  The doctor said we are measuring about 5 days ahead of the due date...so who knows when  this little guy will make an appearance.

My favorite part was they were so good about not spilling the beans on the sex of the baby!  So Baby Finley is still a surprise.  You can start making your bets now!

Basement, Part III

We are so close to being done, I can taste it!!!!!  Cory has gotten a ton accomplished in the last two weeks and now the painters are scheduled to show up on Monday.  That means we will have the basement back together before our big BBQ next weekend.  It's the second year of the BBQ and this year we are celebrating Cory's 30th Birthday!

This is the new paneling and trim on the west wall of the basement...

This door is the access panel for the water shut off, now cleverly hidden!

The beginnings of the new cabinet/shelf on the south end of the basement

The top of the new cabinet is complete!

Even the bathroom has a new window!

I'm so excited for the painters to come.  We have had the rug, the new slipcovers for the couch and futon and pillows for weeks now!  More pictures to come after it looks pretty...
